Hilltop Self Catering Cottage Weardale

Location
Situated on the south side of Killhope Law, Hilltop self catering holiday cottage is located at around 1800ft above sea level, making it one of the highest altitude rental cottages in the country.
 
Power
As this cottage is "off the grid", electricity is provided by a wind turbine, with a backup diesel generator if this is insufficient. You should have no worries about the stability of the electricity supply to the property, however it would be appreciated if residents avoided the use of hair straighteners, hair driers and other non-essential, high-draw electrical appliances during their stay.
 
Water
The water supply for the cottage and the owners property comes from a natural spring higher up the hill to the north of the property. The water system is fitted with a series of filters to ensure that it is completely safe to drink.

Small Holding
On this registered smallhollding there are currently 17 fully free-range chickens and a cockerel called Claude. The smallholding is also surrounded by lots of rough moorland which often has sheep grazing on it. With this in mind, please ensure you keep any dogs on a lead at all times whilst in the grounds of the cottage and in the surrounding fields. Free range eggs are available for purchase from the owners property. 

Weather
Whilst the summer months provide gorgeous clear days ideal for rambling walks and lunch at the local pub, the winter months bring a whole new perspective on country life, with an almost guaranteed appearance of snow each year.

Accessibility
Access to the property is via around 500m of single track road off the A689. This track is very steep in some parts. During the summer months access is easy and has been used by a Peugeot 107 city car without any issues. In the winter, the track can become impassible with heavy snow and ice, and it may be advisable to use the roadside parking (available approx 100m from the bottom of the track) on the on the A689 and travel to the property on foot if the snow is drifting particularly deep.
