Cuckstool Cottage offers you the perfect retreat on the edge of the bustling village of Denby Dale. Offering so much more than the usual self-catering break, we pride ourselves in offering you a 'home-from-home' experience. This well equipped cottage is detached, has 3 bedrooms, and sleeps up to 6.

Facilities & Information

Cuckstool Cottage has a useful lobby, plus well-equipped dining kitchen, with oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge-freezer. There's a spacious living room with exposed stonework and beams, confortable sofas, a TV, DVD player, lots of books, and games for your use. Upstairs you will find a light and airy double room, with far-reaching views across the village cricket ground and bowling green, to the woods beyond. 

 

There's a second bedroom with bunk beds - one single and one double, plus a single room with pull out  bed. The flexible accommodation means it's ideal for two couple travelling together or for a family. The travel  cot we provide can be placed in any of the rooms.  The bathroom with full size bath and shower over is on the first floor. The cottage is gas centrally heated, and there is off street parking.

 

Oustide you will find a small fully enclosed garden, with BBQ and patio furniture,. It's a great spot for watching the local cricket match with a glass of wine in your hand!

 

The accommodation is very child-friendly and we have a cot, high-chair, stairgates and other baby/toddler equipment for your use.  We also leave a Welcome pack with wine, tea, coffee, milk, siugar, bread, butter and jam.

 

Our rental rates include all utilities, bed linen and towels.

Additional Information

Denby Dale is known as the Pie Village because of its historical tradition of making monster meat pies, over the past 220 years. The local Pie Hall has a display of commemorative plates, and the original 1964 pie dish is now full of flowers outside the Pie Hall.

 

Nestled in lovely countryside, Denby Dale is a Rambler's paradise, with way-marked walks straight from the door. We leave lots of information in the cottage so that you can make the most of your stay. there is so much to do in the area, for both adults and children, you will never be bored!

 

Cuckstool Cottage is available for rental from Easter until mid September, October half-term holidays and the Christmas/New Year period. In the main school summer holidays, the minimum rental is for 7 days, outside of this we are happy to do short breaks at £70 per night.

 

Dogs are welcome (£15 extra charge) 

Local Information

There is an enormous amount of things to see and do in this area. Denby Dale itself has an amazing array of specialist shops, there are several pubs, and a very good Indian Restaurant in the village. Within 5 minutes drive you will also find a Mediterranean Restaurant and Italian Restaurant, aswell as more 'Pub Grub' in the local hostelries!

 

Some of the specialist individually owned shops include a book store, old-fshioned butcher's, health food shop, wine shop, rustic furniture shop, shoe shop, jams, and craft store, but there are many many more. 

 

For a great family day out, you can visit Cannon Hall Country Park and Open Farm, or in the summer try to find your way around the Maize Maze, the National Coal Mining Museum is approximately 15 minutes drive away- and it's FREE, including the underground tours. Pugney's Country park has a range of watersports, and you can also explore Sandal Castle.  Kirklees Light Railway is a great attraction, where you can be taken across the countryside in a narrow gauge railway. Eureka chiildren's museum, Tolson Museum, Wakefield Museum are all close by, and it's only 50 minutes by car to the historic city of York. Leeds and Sheffield are even closer if you want to hit the larger shops!

 

The local swimming pool and golfing facilities are close at hand. The wooded areas around are beautiful and are crying out to be explored! We also leave information in the cottage about Geocaching locally.
